On the thirtieth anniversary of the historic demonstration of Iranian women against forced Hejab,

The Campaign for Abolition of all Misogynic Gender Based legislation & Islamic Punitive Laws in Iran celebrates March 8th women’s International Day.

We are approaching the thirtieth anniversary of one of the most important demonstrations in the history of the Iranian women's meovement when thousands protested in March 1979 against mandatory Hejab and the imposition of misogynist Islamic legislation. This protest marked a turning point in the contemporary struggles of Iranian women it marked opposition to all legislations and regulations derived from religious and Sharia laws... The demonstration was the beginning of three decades of struggle and resistance against the rule of a reactionary regime whose foundation is based on the suppression and inferiority of women.

This protest heralded three decades of constant confrontation between the women’s movement and the Iran's Islamic regime regarding on perspectives for freedom.

At a time when Iranian women are the first victims of poverty, destitution, and repression , all consequences of the destructive policies of capitalist order in the world, which policies and strategies can prepare Iranian women to confront these conditions while paving the way for achieving freedom and emancipation?

At a time when the legitimacy of Iran's Islamic is challenged on the national and international arena, how can we invigorate and advance women's struggles in order to deepen the democratic struggles of the peoples of Iran in pursuit of establishing a society free of exploitation and repression?

At a time when the contradictions between the Islamic regime and imperialist powers is on the rise, when Iranians face the destructive consequences of an economic embargo and there is possibility of war, how can the women’ movement in Iran maintain its independence, how can it stop the regime or Imperialist countries supporting the US led war to use the women's for their reactionary aims?

Iran's women's movement is facing numerous intellectual and ideological challenges.

On the thirties’ anniversary of its historic demonstration and 100 years

yafter the participation of Iranian women in the Constitutional revolution , can the women's movement benefit from the experience and efforts of previous generations to present a viable perspective for equality and freedom? With which program, to achieve which alternative?

We are organising a seminar on the 6th and 7th of March in Stockholm to discuss these issues. We invite all those interested in the above issue to participate in this seminar. Following the seminar we will take part in a demonstration in solidarity with International women's day on March 8th .
